My interlibrary loan is due but I still need it. Can I keep it longer?

Answer

One renewal (loan extension) is allowed per request, unless "NO RENEWALS ALLOWED" is printed on the book band. Approval and length of the extension is up to the lending library. Renewals are usually granted for 2-4 weeks. Renewal requests can be made starting 10 days before due date and cannot be requested after the due date has passed. If the due date has passed and you still need the item, place a new request and we will get the item from another library. Return the overdue item ASAP.

To request a renewal:

  1. Logon to your ILL account.
  2. Under "View Your Requests" click “Checked Out /Renew.”
  3. Click on the transaction number (TN) of the item you want to renew.
  4. If the item is eligible for renewal (within 10 days of the due date) click the “Renew Request” link in red, your new due date is a 3-day extension of the original due date. If the lender grants a full extension (usually 2-4 weeks), you will receive a notification with a new due date.
